Matthew Burtner  ·  World premiere  ·  October 2012

An evening-length telematic opera about climate change, premiered in Indianapolis in October 2012 with simultaneous live performances in Norway, Montreal, Fairbanks, Washington DC, and New York City, connected over Internet2. I was a soloist.

Telematic performance sounds like a novelty until you have to play in one. Latency is not a bug you engineer around; it is a physical fact of the ensemble, the way distance is a fact in a piece like Inuksuit. You are playing with people you cannot hear in real time, which means the score has to carry the coordination that a conductor normally carries.
