Become Ocean
John Luther Adams · Knoxville Symphony · March 2016

John Luther Adams’ Become Ocean with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra at the Tennessee Theatre, conducted by Steven Schick, on the Thursday of Big Ears 2016 — the festival year built around Adams as artist in residence, with the composer in the hall. The same program carried Philip Glass’ Cello Concerto No. 2.
That Big Ears was covered by the New Yorker, the New York Times, Rolling Stone, and the Guardian. The week also held Thorvaldsdottir, Feldman’s Crippled Symmetry, Lucier, Reich’s Four Organs, Adams’ Four Thousand Holes and Dark Wind, Elliot Cole’s Postludes, and sixty-odd players of Inuksuit in the woods on Sunday.
