Crippled Symmetry
Morton Feldman · The Sanctuary · March 2016
Ninety minutes of Feldman in a former church on the Saturday of Big Ears 2016, directed and performed with the Nief-Norf Project.
Crippled Symmetry gives its three players material that never quite lines up and asks them to stay unbothered about it. Flute, piano and celesta, vibraphone and glockenspiel, all moving at rates that drift against each other by design. The discipline is in refusing to correct.
