Inuksuit

Inuksuit is written to be played outdoors by anywhere from nine to ninety-nine percussionists, spread far enough apart that no listener can hear all of it. There is no good seat. You walk.
I directed a performance of more than sixty players at Ijams Nature Center as the Sunday finale of Big Ears 2016, for an audience of over a thousand, with John Luther Adams there. Percussionists came from around the country to play it.
We had performed it the year before at Big Ears 2015, also with the composer, and at the UNC-Asheville Ecomusics Conference in October 2014.
