Le Noir de l’étoile

Gérard Grisey  ·  Nief-Norf Summer Festival  ·  June 2015

Grisey wrote Le Noir de l’étoile for six percussionists surrounding the audience, with recorded signals from a pulsar folded into the score. It runs about an hour. The players are placed around the room, so the music circles the listener rather than arriving from a stage.

We played it at the Nief-Norf Summer Festival in June 2015, on a program that also carried the world premiere of Nicholas Deyoe’s Ashley, Christopher, Andy.
