New Literature Showcase

PASIC  ·  San Antonio  ·  November 2015

The University of Tennessee Percussion Ensemble played the New Literature Showcase Concert at PASIC 2015 in San Antonio. The whole forty-eight minutes is on YouTube.

A showcase like this is a curatorial job before it is a playing job. The brief is new repertoire, which means the program has to argue for pieces most of the room has never heard while still working as a concert. I wrote up how I approached that for Percussive Notes that year.

Getting there took its own campaign: two preview concerts at home — one at Cox Auditorium, one at Dobyns-Bennett High School — and a VOLStarter crowdfund that raised $1,315 toward the trip.
