Playing Bryce Dessner’s Triptych with Roomful of Teeth at the Tennessee Theatre for Big Ears 2019.

Roomful of Teeth built their whole practice around vocal techniques from traditions most Western-trained singers never touch, which means the percussion writing underneath them has to make room rather than support. You are not accompanying. You are setting the floor and then getting out of the way.

The same weekend, the Nief-Norf Ensemble played the twelve-hour Drone concert at The Standard, including the premiere of Mantis by Jordan Munson and Evan Chapman.
